Stainless Steel Coil

Cold-rolled and hot-rolled stainless coil and slit strip from 0.3 mm to 8 mm in 201, 304, 316L, 321, 430 and Duplex 2205 — 2B, BA, No.4 and PVC-coated, slit and cut-to-length in-house from our Mumbai facility.

Overview

What is Stainless Steel Coil?

Stainless steel coil is continuously rolled flat product wound into a coil, supplied cold-rolled from 0.3 mm to 6 mm and hot-rolled from 2 mm to 8 mm, in widths from 5 mm slit strip up to 1500 mm, with coil weights from 50 kg to 15 MT and 508 mm or 610 mm inside diameter. Steelco stocks 201, 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, 409, 430 and Duplex 2205 coil in 2B, BA, No.4 and mirror finishes, and slits, cuts to length and edge-conditions to order from its Mumbai facility.

Product Advantages

Why Choose Stainless Steel Coil

Continuous feed for automated lines

Coil feeds press lines, roll-formers, tube mills and CNC punch presses without the piece handling that sheet requires — the lowest-cost format for volume production.

Minimal offcut waste

Cut-to-length from coil lets you nest to your exact blank length, typically cutting scrap by 5–15% against standard sheet sizes.

Slit to any width

Master coil is slit down to 5 mm strip with ±0.05 mm width tolerance and burr-free or rounded edges for spring, gasket and strapping work.

Consistent single-heat lots

One coil is one heat — mechanical properties, gauge and finish stay uniform across the entire production run, which matters for repeat-part tolerance control.

Full finish range

2B, BA, No.4 satin, mirror-polished and PVC-coated coil available directly from stock or processed in-house.

Grade Data

Grade chemistry and mechanical properties supplied in stainless steel coil.

Chemical composition and mechanical properties are grade properties, not form properties — the same grade keeps the same chemistry whether it is supplied as sheet, plate or coil. The tables below list the specified limits for each grade we stock in stainless steel coil, tested and certified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA240. Values are weight percent (maximum unless a range is shown); mechanical values are minima in the annealed condition.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Answers to the questions our Mumbai desk is asked most often.

What is the difference between stainless steel coil and sheet?

+

They are the same material in different formats. Coil is continuously wound strip supplied by weight, ideal for automated feeding, roll forming and cut-to-length operations; sheet is flat cut lengths supplied by piece. Buying coil normally lowers cost per kilogram and reduces offcut waste on volume production.

What coil weights and inside diameters do you supply?

+

Standard coils are supplied with a 508 mm (20 inch) or 610 mm (24 inch) inside diameter, in weights from 50 kg mini-coils up to 15 MT master coils. We re-coil and split heavy coils to suit your decoiler capacity.

Can you slit coil to a specific width?

+

Yes. Our Mumbai slitting line handles widths from 5 mm strip up to 600 mm with a width tolerance of ±0.05 mm, and edges can be supplied slit, deburred or fully rounded depending on the downstream forming or spring application.

Which temper should we order for deep drawing versus springs?

+

For deep drawing, order annealed (soft) temper in 304 or 304L, which offers the highest elongation. For clips, washers and spring components, specify 1/2 hard, 3/4 hard or full hard 301 / 304 strip per ASTM A666, where higher tensile strength and springback are needed.

Do you supply PVC-coated coil?

+

Yes. PVC or PE protective film is laminated in-house on 2B, BA and No.4 coil to prevent scratching during forming, transport and site installation. The film peels cleanly and is UV-stabilised for up to six months of outdoor exposure.

What is the minimum order quantity for coil?

+

Stocked grades and gauges can be supplied from a single mini-coil or a slit bundle. For non-stock widths, tempers or precision gauges rolled to order, a mill minimum of 3–5 MT per size applies with a 4–8 week lead time.
