What are special alloys?
Special alloys are reactive, refractory and non-ferrous metals used where stainless and even nickel alloys are not enough — titanium for chloride and seawater service, zirconium for hot sulphuric acid, tantalum for the harshest acid duties, cupro nickel and nickel aluminium bronze for marine systems, and copper beryllium for non-sparking high-strength tooling.
Steelco Metal & Alloys supplies these materials from Mumbai in bar, sheet, plate, pipe, tube, flange, fitting and fastener form, procured from approved international mills against project schedules. Every dispatch leaves our Mumbai warehouse with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate (3.2 with TUV, SGS, BV, Lloyd's or IRS witness on request), PMI verification and full heat-number traceability.

Which special alloy is best for seawater service?

Titanium Grade 2 is immune to seawater corrosion at any velocity and is the first choice for condenser and desalination tubing. Cupro nickel 90/10 is the cost-effective alternative for piping with good biofouling resistance, and nickel aluminium bronze is used for pumps, impellers and valve bodies.
When should zirconium be specified instead of Hastelloy?

Zirconium 702 outperforms nickel alloys in hot sulphuric acid up to about 70% concentration, in hydrochloric acid across all concentrations and in nitric acid, and it resists urea and organic acid service. Hastelloy remains preferable where the medium carries oxidising chlorides such as ferric chloride, which attack zirconium.
Do you supply small trial quantities of exotic metals?

Yes. Tantalum foil, zirconium plate cut pieces and titanium offcuts are supplied in single-piece quantities from stock, which makes them practical for R&D and trial fabrication before a full project order.
