Ta-2.5W (UNS R05252) adds 2.5% tungsten to tantalum, raising tensile strength to roughly 310 MPa while keeping the corrosion resistance of unalloyed tantalum essentially unchanged. The extra strength allows thinner walls in pressure-containing acid equipment, reducing the cost of a very expensive metal.
